The world-famous Sydney New Year's Eve fireworks are an unforgettable experience. Produced by the City of Sydney, Sydney New Year’s Eve is a celebration of the New Year with a breathtaking fireworks display set against the glittering Sydney Harbour, the iconic Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Volunteering for this magical night is a lifetime and unique experience.

Volunteer Roles - Spectator Services Team
These teams are the ‘face’ of Sydney NYE. You’ll give information to the public about specific viewing areas, access areas and direct people to these sites. You’ll also hand out the Sydney NYE guides and maps.
This is a fast-paced role. Local knowledge of the Sydney CBD is essential.
This opportunity is open to volunteers over 18 years of age only.
Volunteer dates and times
Morning, afternoon and evening shifts will be available throughout the city centre.
Pre-event information booths
Tuesday 27 December – Friday 30 December
*These shifts will be available to everyone who is accepted and registered in a shift on 31st December.
Event day – information booths and roving teams
Saturday 31 December
• Exclusive 2016 Sydney New Year’s Eve volunteer t-shirt and hat
• Access to viewing site
• Certificate of Appreciation
• Statement of Service if required
• Invitations to City of Sydney affiliated events throughout the year (for volunteers with 2+ years service)
• Satisfaction in being part of one of the biggest events in the Sydney calendar
Selection and training
A selection process for volunteer positions will take place. Based on your application all new volunteers will be invited to attend a phone and/ or in person interview. Interview sessions will take place from 4 October to 18 November.
Volunteer Briefing Session – 22 December 6pm–7.30pm at Customs House. Compulsory.
Volunteer Workshop – 29 December 5pm–8.30pm at Customs House. Compulsory. This workshop includes a walk through the city centre and training on Sydney New Year’s Eve operations.
